Well, for those of you that don't know, I was unable to post from last Wednesday to the Tuesday just gone and then I posted this thread, only for it to be deleted by accident within minutes (see Customer Service for more info on that). Anyway, here we go again with the Hungarian Grand Prix!

Qualifying saw Pedro De La Rosa take pole position, his third pole position of the season and the 6th in his career, making him the most successful qualifier in SR F1 history. His lap record was enough to beat the B.A.R pair of Button and Pantano to 2nd and 3rd respectively.

The Championship battle saw Baumgartner take the advantage over Salo by qualifying 10th to Salo's 17th. Some other performances to focus on, Ralf Schumacher was 6th, Villeneuve was 12th and the previous race winner, Barrichello, was 19th.

Full qualifying results:

1st De La Rosa (Virtuoso) 1m14.004s - LAP RECORD
2nd Button (Der Nazi) 1m14.026s (+0.022s)
3rd Pantano (Chris) 1m14.031s (+0.027s)
4th Heidfeld (Shadow) 1m14.031s (+0.027s)
5th Coulthard (Azul) 1m14.032s (+0.028s)
6th R Schumacher (Absolut Neo) 1m14.038s (+0.034s)
7th Panis (Foreman) 1m14.053s (+0.049s)
8th Sato (Wakka) 1m14.081s (+0.077s)
9th Pizzonia (Icarus) 1m14.093s (+0.089s)
10th Baumgartner (N/A) 1m14.133s (+0.129s)
11th Verstappen (Jae) 1m14.145s (+0.141s)
12th Villeneuve (Mike Swade) 1m14.159s (+0.155s)
13th Raikkonen (Ineedsleep) 1m14.166s (+0.162s)
14th Da Matta (Grandprix) 1m14.180s (+0.176s)
15th Fisichella (Badgerman) 1m14.207s (+0.203s)
16th Montoya (Afrojoe) 1m14.253s (+0.249s)
17th Salo (Biggie Little) 1m14.255s (+0.251s)
18th Firman (DW) 1m14.271s (+0.267s)
19th Barrichello (Lipe) 1m14.280s (+0.276s)
20th Frentzen (N/A) 1m14.323s (+0.319s)
21st M Schumacher (Notorious Biggles) 1m14.341s (+0.337s)
22nd Bruni (N/A) 1m14.351s (+0.347s)

With the grid settled, it was time for the race! While the qualifying was dry, the race was wet with changeable conditions, making the track tricky and slippery. It certainly was dramatic.

De La Rosa was the first to become victim to the conditions. He spun while in the lead. Ralf Schumacher was next to become victim when he spun. However, he didn't recover. He spun back into the track where Fisichella hit him. Fisichella escaped with no damage while Ralf had enough damage to force him to retire on lap 3.

Spinning was a regular occurance during the long race. Sato, Villeneuve, Pizzonia, Montoya, De La Rosa, Fisichella, Raikkonen, Coulthard, Da Matta, Panis, Heidfeld, Firman, Bruni, Button and Baumgartner all had spins with varying degrees of lost time.

Michael Schumacher made only one mistake in the race but it was a costly one. He slid into a wall on lap 16 and retired. Button was in the lead of the race at this time but spun, not once but twice, which dented his chances of winning. Montoya spun and damaged his front wing in the process.

Verstappen was the first mechanical retirement when, on lap 24, his transmission began playing up, forcing him to retire from the race. De La Rosa's race was only getting worse when he spun again and damaged his front wing. Heidfeld was in the lead at this point but he also spun out of the lead.

Barrichello, the winner of the last round in Germany, couldn't make it two in a row when his left front suspension failed on lap 49. The wall that claimed Michael Schumacher, claimed 2 more drivers on successive laps. Montoya was the first to go on lap 57 and De La Rosa did the same thing on lap 58 to end a miserable race.

It was really beginning to heat up at the front with Pantano ahead with a comfortable 30 second lead and Baumgartner in 2nd with Championship rival Salo right on his tail. Pantano was only 4 laps away from his first ever SR F1 victory when disaster struck. Bruni spun off up ahead and came back onto the track in front of Pantano. Bruni escaped with no damage in the resulting collision but Pantano had damage beyond repair and retired on lap 74.

The stage was set for the Championship showdown with Baumgartner and Salo running together on the track with barely anything to seperate them. Baumgartner was really starting to feel the pressure and was making slight errors. Did he do enough to win?

He did as Baumgartner came home to win ahead of Salo in 2nd place in one of the closest finishes in SR F1 race history. 3rd was Firman to finally score some points but his Championship reign ends at the end of the season, as he is now mathematically out of the title race. Heidfeld was one of a few drivers that could have won this race but his continuing run of end of season form keeps going with a 4th place finish. Villeneuve recovered from a few mistakes to take 5th and 3rd in the Championship. Frentzen completes a good day for Sauber with 6th. Coulthard was another potential race winner but 7th was the best he got in the end. Sato hadn't scored any points since Austria but picked up 1 point here for 8th.

PREDICTION WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

Der Nazi increased his lead to 17 points after his win in Germany. What was the results in Hungary? Only 6 people predicted so we revert back to the old points system (10, 6, 4, 3, 2, 1) and 1 extra point for the closest to the tie breaker. Let's find out how you did:

1st Jae 10pts (25pts - +0.191s)
2nd Der Nazi 6pts (19pts - +0.207s)
3rd Chris 4pts (18pts - +0.152s)
4th Mike Swade 3pts (12pts)
5th Ineedsleep 2pts + 1pt (7pts - +0.003s) THE CLOSEST
6th Badgerman 1pt (4pts - +0.084s)

The table now looks like this:

1st Der Nazi - 84pts (3 wins)
2= Mike Swade – 64pts (2 wins)
2= Ineedsleep – 64pts (1 win)
4th Jae – 54pts (2 wins)
5th Foreman – 53pts (2 wins)
6th Chris – 48pts (2 wins)
7th Biggie Little – 47pts (1 win)
8th Badgerman – 32pts
9th Absolut Neo – 14pts
10th Azul – 11pts
11th RoJ – 8pts
12th Virtuoso – 7pts
13th Wakka – 4pts
14th Notorious Biggles – 1pt

Der Nazi increases his lead to 20 points with only 50 points available (barring bonus points). Congratulations to Der Nazi and Chris for correctly guessing that Baumgartner would win the race and very well done to Jae who guessed that Minardi would score the most points and Baumgartner would win!

The next round is my personal favourite, Belgium. The prediction thread should be up on Saturday 28th August, with the qualifying a week later and the race on the Wednesday after that. The title race is nearing the end with now only 20 drivers with a mathematical chance of winning. You don't want to miss how it ends so I expect to see you all following SR F1 to it's conclusion!

Some where near what I said yesterday:

Pantano did good getting 3rd in qualifying and was going on to get his first win but goes an blows it, but it was Bruni's fault. I'll kick him. Ataleast I made a place up in the prediction table.

I was going to say pretty standard by Raikkonens form this season but then I noticed he actually managed to finish :D

Wouldn't have minded watching the race, with all the spins it sounded more like a badly choreographed ballet.

But my predictions are getting worse :(

* makes mental note to copy Der Nazi next week :D
