Right, I've found a good Motherboard - the Abit SKT 939 http://www.microdirect.co.uk/productinfo.aspx?ProductID=6594 it’s quite cheap and very cheerful - I decided to look at the motherboard manual before I bought it. I was browsing through when this message in the AGP section attracted my attention:

ATTENTION: This motherboard does not support 3.3V AGP cards. Use only 1.5V or 0.8V AGP cards.

Great - what appeared to be a simple buy has turned out to be something complex once again. I have this graphics card here: http://www.abit-usa.com/products/graphics/products.php?categories=2&model=134 I want to know if they will be compatible - they are both Abit so I don’t see a problem - but at the side it says AGP 3.0 which is quite worrying.

Please - if anybody could highlight the situation I would be grateful (again) cheers!

---> Oh another thing, if i buy a SKT 939 board will i need a SKT 939 AMD chip - or can i get away with a 754 chip? If i can't then i'm goosed.

Garin got it.

As for sockets, socket 939 mobos need socket 939 processors. 754 boards need 754 processors. They literally have 939 or 754 pins on the bottom of the processor, so it is a big deal. They are completely incompatible.

Oh right, that makes sense :)

Still - my daft question still remains on the end of the original post.
Thanks.

AGP 1.0 = 3.3v
AGP 2.0 = 1.5v
AGP 3.0 = 0.8v

At least I think thats it, somebody else can correct me if I'm wrong. :)
