Okay I'm sure they've gotten cheaper over the last 6 years but lately I've only been seeing desktop PC prices fall to an incredibly low price. You can get PCs as cheap as £241 (and lower) and these are bad computers they make my old PC look pathetic which I think we got 4 or 5 years ago for over £1200 (might have been longer I dunno).

The cheapest laptop I can find is still around £600 and even that desktop priced £241 is far more powerful than this laptop. So what's up with the laptop industry why arent we seeing them priced around £250-£400? Are we ever likely to? I can see a future where we have personal laptops rather than sharing one PC. Life would have been a lot easier if we were given a laptop all through high school, college, university and work.
Especially with all this new bluetooth stuff, more people should be getting laptops.

It isn't even that the parts are less standardised, although that is a factor. The main thing is the price of the components. The screen is a high cost component, worth a couple hundred in a decent laptop, less in a cheaper one (normally anyway). Also batteries cost a lot. Then you have a bunch of other things like more expensive, smaller hard drives, SODIMM memory is more expensive than standard DDR, mobile processors tend to be the cream of the crop and more expensive than desktop processors etc.

So whilst laptop technology is all based on desktop computer stuf, it is all higher unit cost as well. This is passed on to the consumer.

My laptop cost £800 and it rules.

Sure, couldve got a better spec desktop for less but I like the ability to roam around the house and surf the net wirelessly, then later on I can stick it in a carry case and take it college or whatever.

Yep yep, laptops = good.

Its because the parts are a lot less standardised.
