Instead of a convert game of double-crossing and amnesia fun, we got Will Hunting driving a Mini around Paris. Great.
Now, the second book isn't as good as Identity, but it seemed to me that it'd be much easier to be loyal to the Bourne set-up premise and general book plot. So I was cautiously hopeful.
But no. We have a Bourne set-up, but there's no governmental stuff and Chinese angry government. Instead, for no reason at all, you have a oil baron who is comically Russian and therefore Evil.
And that's no the worst bit. Nor is Eomer from Lord of the Rings running around in evil Russian mode. He wears black and has a goatee. Therefore he is Evil.
The worst bit is them completely f**king over another key character from the book. If you see this film, try and remember that Ward Abbott is nothing like his film portrayal. Go read the books. Seriously.
I'll just put the huge gap between film and book into context. If this had been Lord of the Rings, Sauron wouldn't be in it, Gandalf would be secretly on the evil side and Frodo would be played by Ben Affleck.
Muuuh.
I haven't read the books, but I thought the film was alright.
