Yeah, and there's random patches of linear brown on the walls etc, and some things are just purely black.

Think that's what I did. I got the incorrectly loaded texutes too, i.e. the boxes and filing cabinets were all black.
GPU was pretty cool, and and immediate quit and reload fixes the problem. Still, freaked me out a little.

That happened to me in HL2 constantly until I updated my drivers.
Careful, that can be a sign of your graphics card overheating.
That sometimes happens to me in HL2 single player too.
