Matt Hardy has written an update on his official website (hosted by WWE) and tells fans that he will be undergoing major reconstructive knee surgery to repair damage to his MCL and ACL. The surgery will require a recovery time of 6-8 months and is expected to take place soon after this Sunday's Summerslam match against Kane.

Hardy is currently involved in a major storyline involving Lita and will face Kane in a "Till Death Do Us Part" match. Kane was recently revealed as the storyline father of Lita's baby, and the winner of the match will get to marry Lita.

Interestingly, WWE have pulled the artical, seeing it as a potential spoiler.

Umm, well, no. Maybe if we'd been forced to view a scene in the Addams Family where the granny gave birth to 'thing'. But otherwise, it will forever be a 'wrestlecrap' moment.

Try telling that to Vince. He wanted this angle to run for the entireity of Lita's supposed pregnancy. At which point she would have probably given birth to a (burnt) hand, given the writing team's previous form.

I think history might be repeating itself here. Lita is playing the role of Tori, Kane is playing X-Pac and Matt is playing Kane.

Lita doesn't like being with Kane, yet over the next few weeks, she'll like it, and then she'll turn heel.

Maybe on Raw, she'll call Matt out and Kane will attack him.

Kinda makes carrying the storyline on rather pointless now though. How can the creative team get around the fact that Matt Hardy won't be around?
