Another new race winner is crowned, making 12 out of 12

Rubens Barrichello has won the German Grand Prix and has finally picked up a win after his 2 years of struggle at Ferrari. It's the 12th different winner out of the 12 raes this year, only 1 away from the 13 last year.

The race was action packed with overtaking all over the place on the long straights. Heidfeld made an early mistake and Raikkonen and Da Matta made contact in an overtaking move. Then came lap 4. Salo past the pits and down the straight in a comfortable 3rd place, ahead of rival Baumgartner only for his engine to give way spectacularly. Bruni was the next to go just a little way down the track with transmission problems. Raikkonen crashed out off camera also on lap 4.

There were numerous incidents, mostly involving the cars at the back. Villeneuve and Panis slipped off at high speed and went to the back. Button, M Schumacher, Firman and Pantano all trying too hard made mistakes. It didn't get any better for Firman when his car failed him again on lap 11 with transmission problems. That's the entire season so far without a point and dreams of retaining the title looking all over.

Heidfeld pushed too hard yet again, spun and damaged the front wing he hit the barrier. That ended any hope of a revival as he required a pit stop to fix the wing. Button retired on lap 18 with transmission problems and Verstappen also went out on lap 18 with the same problem.

Ralf Schumacher looked like heading for a win when he made a critical error and lost out when the 2nd pit stops came around. Sato ended yet another miserable day for Jaguar when he spun late on twice.

Barrichello gets the win he has craved for a long time and has got it after ditching Ferrari for Renault. Montoya just didn't have the pace to challenge for the win and was a comfortable 2nd. Baumgartner will be delighted to pick up 3rd, which increases his lead in the Championship. He didn't have a fast car but benefitted from retirements, mistakes and pit stops. Coulthard looked quick but got held up numerous times and just missed out on the top 3 but got 4th. Pizzonia completes a great day for Renault with 5th. Frentzen picked up 3 points for 6th, Ralf Schumacher will be kicking himself for the one mistake that cost him a potential race win but takes 2 points for 7th. De La Rosa survived a late electrical problem to take 1 point for 8th.

PREDICTION WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

Der Nazi increased his lead in the last race despite a poor 6th place. Once again, only 7 predicted, so an extra point for the closest to the tie breaker. What happened in Round 12? Let's find out:

1st Der Nazi 10pts + 1pt (9pts - +0.098s) - THE CLOSEST
2nd Chris 8pts (9pts - +0.248s)
3rd Badgerman 6pts (8pts - +0.929s)
4th Ineedsleep 5pts (8pts - +1.207s)
5th Foreman 4pts (7pts - +0.592s)
6th Biggie Little 3pts (7pts - +2.512s)
7th Mike Swade 2pts (7pts)

The table now looks like this:

1st Der Nazi - 78pts (3 wins)
2= Mike Swade – 61pts (2 wins)
2= Ineedsleep – 61pts (1 win)
4th Foreman – 53pts (2 wins)
5th Biggie Little - 47pts (1 win)
6= Chris – 44pts (2 wins)
6= Jae – 44pts (1 win)
8th Badgerman – 31pts
9th Absolut Neo – 14pts
10th Azul – 11pts
11th RoJ – 8pts
12th Virtuoso – 7pts
13th Wakka - 4pts
14th Notorious Biggles - 1pt

Der Nazi increases his lead by 9 points to 17 and with only 6 races left, it is going to be tricky to get that back.

We are getting to the point where we can eliminate drivers from the title race. At the moment, 6 races = 60 points maximum available. It's going to be a tough fight in the last few races. Who will come out on top? Find out as we go to Round 13 in Hungary. The prediction thread will be up on the 14th August, the qualifying on the 21st and the race on the 25th.

Transmission failure in the race, but another solid win in the predictions means I extend my lead further. Excellent.

Not bad by Pantano, to say he came last in qualyfying, to climb up ten to 12th. Also I could hopefully increase a place in the prediction table next race.

Please note the way he says people "generally have fun" 'cos he is not talking about the person associated with Raikkonen :D

Bumblebees. We should quit now and save money on the fuel and parts. Maybe we can put the money saved to good use and invest in a better car for next season.

Or

Even better. We could buy a crackerjack box with the money saved and hope we get lucky enough to grab a toy car as the gift which would run better :D
