Hiya,

My Dad wants a Laptop - he is faced with a few decisions though. The main one is what processer?

Either Pentium 4, Celeron or Centrino M processer.
I think i've heard bad things about either the Celeron or the Centrino - but i cant recall which one or where i heard it. Can anybody help?

They are all around the same price.

In my opinion a laptop is for working on (read: word) and a desktop is for working on (read: play). If I wanted a laptop to play games while on the train with, I'd immediately find myself asking what happened to my driving licence. With this in mind, I would thoroughly recommend a Centrino model, because the battery life is stupendous and the built-in wireless chip is a necessesity. The Centrino models are generally better than a Celeron with generic wireless adaptor, as the Centrino's card uses much less battery - and actually works.

If you get a bog standard Pentium 4 you'll have a fast old PC, but the battery life will be minimal.

I would go with the Pentium M, it walks a perfect line between power and battery consumption. And if the speedstep power saving feature starts to irk you, you can always disable it.

Celerons are badness, there are no Centrino processors, Centrino is a buzzword made by Intel to describe notebooks which contain a pentium M processor and an intel pro/wireless 2200BG card.

Pentium M processors are the nuts however, especially the Dothan, mmmmm 2 MB cache.
