1: What makes it better than the much cheaper MP3 players? (e.g. is it louder?)
2: What's up with the battery?
3: They're expensive buggers, any chance of a drop in price anytime soon?
4: Is a "jukebox" any good?
5: Would you recommend one? If not what would you recommend?
6: How loud is it?
And please feel free to criticise the battery life although I've already established that complaint.

It's the Nokia of the MP3 world. It is by far the easiest to use. Has an appealing image. It comes with a status and provides a service of playing music easily.

3rd Gen suposedly deteriorates in battery life over time. It has a standard of about 8-10 hours play time. But this can go down to about 5 in the worst cases. 4th Gen does not have this problem, according to Apple, and has 10-12 hours life. I haven't read or seen reports of otherwise and personally I have played my Pod for a two spells of 5 hours one day, before the battery started to get pretty low. From what I have seen it just depends if your'e lucky or not.

3rd Gen sellers yes. Second hand, no.

Better than a flash player in my opinion, cos you can have all ya music in one place. They are obviously larger though.

Personally 20GB is perfect for anyone thats interested in a jukebox. Since I do, it's good for me and the other stuff sweeten the deal. Yes, I would reccomend one. However, if you wouldn't make use of 12.5 GB then I would suggest you get a 4MB MUVO2 by Creative.

That's a bit of a non-question. louder doesn't mean better and I'm not sure that anyone would measure it anyway. With earphones, the max is quite load. With a set of 2 plug in speakers (via a lead speaker) you can put the iPod full and the speakers about half way and get a good volume without a loss in sound quality.
Hope this helps. Ultimately once Apple had fixed the battery, it was a personal question whether musioc was important enough to me over the next few years and was something around the corner. The answer was a resounding yes to the first and a probable no to the second.
Hope this helps.

No moving parts in the 3G model (Not sure about the 4G newer one though as the wheel has changed)So it less likely to break, the high storage capacity allows about 5000 songs (20GB model) and 10000 (40GB model)

Lasts 8 hours continuous play, this gets reduced when you start using the scroll wheel and searcing through songs or using the backlight. Newer model claims to last 12 hours but I don't own one so can't comment on that.

Not on the newer 4G model but you may be able to pick up a 3G one cheap if someone is looking to get one of the newer ones. Shop around for old stock of 3G ones if you want a bargain.
People often compare all the mp3 players, the iPod isn't the best available but a lot of people like it for its looks or for the range of accessories available for it. iTrip and iPod is a fantastic combination.
I say its a bit like buying a car, people have different tastes so buy different cars. They don't go for the cheapest, or the fastest or the one with the best fuel consumption. Just for what they like.
I went for an iPod as my brother got one and really liked it, also had friends at uni who owned other players that had crashed or had other problems that put me off them. Search around and compare them, new Sony one is supposed to be good.
