Sorry for putting a review here - the film in question isn't out over here for a while and I just couldn't wait.

This morning, while still trying to get the taste of vomit out of my mouth (probably brought on by a very dodgy kebab), I looked at the pile of post underneath the letter box and noticed a jiffy bag containing my most recent DVD purchase - the 2 disc version of The Emperor's New Groove.

Due to the unintentional early morning start to the day, I realised that I had plenty of time to have a look at it before I went to work. In my opinion, Disney produce possible the best DVDs going, providing you buy the extra-packed collectors editions. There is so much on this disc to do with the making of the film from original pitches, story boards, character design and development, promotional material and also a behind the scenes look at the studios where these films are made. Not to mention a collection of trailers for other Disney films (including the pant-wettingly superb looking Atlantis).

Based on other Disney DVDs the region 2 version (probably out in a couple of months) should be identical to this one so fans of the film are in for yet another treat - and fans of this film should be plentiful.

The film follows the story of Emperor Kuzco, a spoiled brat of an emperor who is used to getting his own way all of the time. He doesn't like his advisor (the evil Ysma) interfering with his ruling so he fires her and in revenge she plots to kill him and take his place. Unfortunately, due to poor potion labelling, her right-hand man Krunk (a simple minded sort of chap) drugs Kuzco with a potion which, instead of killing him, turns him into a llama. Unable to bring himself to finish the job properly Krunk loses Kuzco onto the back of a trailer pulled by Pacha - a peasant who has just been told his village is going to be destroyed to make way for Kuzco's new swimming pool/summer house ("Kuzcotopia").

The main part of the story follows Pacha taking Kuzco back to the palace, while hoping to change his building plans along the way, but carrying on would be giving away more information than is already in the trailer(s).

This film takes a more surreal angle to the Disney brand of humour and, as such, will go over the heads of a lot of kids in parts. There's still more than enough there for them to enjoy, it's just that a slightly older audience will get even more out of the film. The closest Disney film in recent years in terms of style is probably Aladdin so use that as a guide if you're not sure.

Think of it as a perfect film for people who have grown up loving Disney rather than people who are growing up loving Disney.

If anyone hasn't seen this film then you are missing Disney doing what it does best and doing it at it's best - making fantastically entertaining films and, in my opinion, that's worth more than any number of 'critically-acclaimed' works of 'art'.

And before you assume anything, I wasn't sick through drinking too much - the amount of solids in there showed that something can't have been digested properly.

Recent example: American Beauty - nothing good about it whatsoever and, yet, critics rave about it being a masterpiece.

When I saw it and told a friend of mine who I went with that it was rubbish because I found no entertainment value in it at all he came up with the laughable comment that 'films don't always have to be entertaining'. He's right in a sense - not all films are entertaining but one thing all the ones that aren't have in common is that they are bad.

What films would you regard as "'critically-acclaimed' works of 'art'"?
can one of these not be "fantastically entertaining"?

Just sharing my opinions with the masses (while also confessing to a drink/junk food problem).
