METZ DEMAND SAHA MONEY FROM FULHAM
Tuesday 3rd August 2004
"Metz have reported Fulham to Fifa as they claim they are still to receive the money they are owed from the sale of Louis Saha to Manchester United.
The French club insist they had a sell-on clause inserted in Saha's contract when they sold him to Fulham in the summer of 2000.
"Jean Tigana paid £2.1 million to Metz to take Saha to Fulham and the French international proved a major success at Craven Cottage.
"Saha left Fulham for Manchester United in a £12.8 million deal in January 2004 and Metz claim they are owed 15 percent of the transfer fee.
"Metz are still to receive any fee for the transfer and they have enlisted the help of Fifa to secure the money they feel they are owed.
"It is not the first time that Fulham have found themselves caught up in a financial row with a French club over a transfer, after they withheld the final payment of Steve Marlet's move from Lyon because of the involvement of agents."
----------
Not, perhaps the most interesting of stories for this time of year, I know. But, no doubt some people will be interested in it.
I, for one, am looking forward to see how Sepp Blatter manages to stick his nose in and blow the situation out of proportion, since Metz are calling FIFA in on this situation.
From what I can work out (very roughly), Fulham owe them a figure between £1.8m and £2m.
One interesting point to note, however, is that this isn't Fulham's first case of a 'Missing Payment', for those of you who remember the Steve Marlet deal.
But, if it is in the contract Saha signed to join Fulham (presuming they still have it on record somewhere...), then surely, Fulham are, basically... Pretty screwed, unless they can come up with the money now?
Shouldn't it be 'Fulham Fan' then?
As for the initial article, if they are seriously owed by Fulham, then they have every right to take it to Fifa.
