New Bond, new tricks and a firm grounding in what made the original movies great - but without the sillyness. This is a serious outing for Bond - there's no super bases, no real car-chases to speak of and next to no gadgets compared to many of the Bonds in the past.
This isn't about gimmics - this is about the character of Bond and the movie barely ever leaves Bond's side. There's very few scenes where we see M or the villains doing what they're doing without Bond being there - it's all on Craig's shoulders and it works wonderfully.
Now, will the kids like it? Well it's a 12A for a reason, this is very violent in a personal way with more adult jokes and less funny quips. There is torture among other things so this really is something you want to view yourself seperately before you think about taking the kids along.
There's some questionable parts in that Bond seems to be about as stoppable as the T-1000 (and runs like the T-1000 does in the car park in T2!) which sort of bends the realism a bit but certainly makes for some excellent scenes.
This is smarter than Goldeneye and a lot less action-based although there's just enough to keep action fans happy, but only just.
The story is decent and modern without being cliched but that's all you're getting on the story - go see it for yourself!
As a first outing for a new Bond this is an interesting, intelligent and thoughtful approach to the character and it works very well. Definitely looking forward to the next in the series.

Just back from seeing this and you were bang on. I loved the movie itself, but it didn't feel Bond as such, felt more like watching Die Hard. It felt like they just expected you to accept Craig as Bond without really getting you introduced to him. The end bit was the only bit where it felt like a proper Bond movie following the books etc. Overall thought it was a great movie i just need some more convincing and ill probably have to watch it again.
It's radically different from the last movie so that might prove a shock to the system for those used to Brosnan's portrayal of Bond.
