I'm confused. Really. Personal opinions aside, the dreamcast is a fantastic piece of kit. Yet it's sales are poor, it's software sales are worse, and Sega are reporting losses for a fourth consecutive year. What happened to good old fashioned gamers? Anyone with half a brain can see that the Dreamcast is currently the console you can buy... and I'm not being biased, it's true. With titles already like Sonic Adventure (fun) Soul Calibur (mind blowing brilliance) Rayman 2 (underrated) Chu Chu Rocket (goldeneye multiplayer beater) for free, the definitive versions of V rally 2, Tony Hawks, and indeed Dead or alive 2. Yes, I'm counting the playstation 2 version... which is widely regarded as poorer than the Dreamcast version. The superb, spine chilling Code Veronica (the only resi evil game to last me more than a weekend!) and the fantastic Crazy Taxi, plus games on the way such as Ecco, Shenmue, Sonic Adventure 2, countless superb sega arcade ports.... and who's to forget the newly annouced Unreal Tournament (again, reportedly better than the ps2 version.... see dc.ign.com) the excellent Quake 3 and the masterpiece that is Half life.... complete with improved visuals and a whole additional adventure. Ten years ago, any console with titles of this calibre would be breaking box office records. The main problem is the hype SOny are twirling about the long awaited playstation 2. Countless small children I know are waiting for the console, but when I ask them what games they're looking forward to, they don't know. All that's sony isn't gold, y'know. Tekken Tag is simply Tekken 3 with improved visuals and a few dead or alive 2 rip off additions. (minus the bouncing bosoms, sorry) and other titles such as street fighter 67 million (or is it 67 million three thousand and two) Ridge racer and countless others have received -very- poor reviews both in import magazines and in the japanese press. The situation is unacceptable. Come the release of the ps2 on october the 16th (read: sometime in mid may 2001) the dreamcast will have fully integrated online capabilities, quite possible an mp3 player, dvd drive, hard drive and even a lovely little mouse to play quake 3 with. The playstation 2 will have a dvd player (which is cool, I'm not afraid to admit that!) some b-list titles and some sequels which only just better their prequels. Throughout gaming history, the console with the best titles has ALWAYS been the best seller. Until now. Thanks to the playstaion (ooh..... look at the rubbish graphics and countless poor sequels or rip offs......... I want one!!!) the dreamcast and N64 have all but slipped into neutral. Sony have killed the industry. Thanks to them, it's more popular than ever.... playstation is a household name, and millions of children get ripped off with poor games. The dreamcast is affordable (£150) and has enough grade A titles to warrant a few more million sales at least. If this situation is not addressed, then by my predictions the all shirt, no trousers playstation 2 will come along and kick the festering corpse of the games industry until it bleeds sonys blood. Think. What are you really waiting for? holding off buying a dreamcast simply because your playstation was good? so was the megadrive. doesn't mean the megaCD, 32X or saturn were any good does it? which begs the question... is this why the dreamcast is doing badly? a sega stigma? get over it. Get into it. dreamcast.
(if this isn't enough to convince you.... and I doubt it will be, take heart in the fact that come bleemcast, every single playstation game you've ever played will be available to play with dreamcast style graphics....... tasty)
