Sorry!

Right, remember I had trouble getting a AVI file onto a DVD?

Well, I managed to convert it somehow - can't quite remember, was a stroke of luck - to a load of .VOB and .BUP files and the like.

What program can I use to put these onto a DVD now then? I'm hoping there's no more conversions left to do and I can just burn these files, 'as-is' onto a DVD and it'll be playable in a DVD Player.

Please guide me oh Clever Ones :D

p.s. Please don't ask me to tell you what files are in the folder - I'm at work right now, so cannot have a look

Don't know really. It came with the case - a Shuttle SB62G2 SFF board. It's an Intel board, but not sure what model (max processor speed is P4 2.8Ghz HT).

I see.. how odd. Which motherboard do you use anyway?

The DVD is in file format on my HDD anyway, there was never a source DVD to copy from. There's no on-the-fly copying going, except from off the Hard drive itself

You're going to have really big problems copying DVDs over a (probably) low quality IDE bus. What chipset does your motherboard use? If it's VIA I'd copy to your harddrive first. On my VIA chipset it could only handle 3.5x DeCSS read from my DVD drive, when I upgraded the motherboard to an nForce2, I can now do 8x DeCSS read, with the same harddrive, RAM and CPU.

OK, back. Well, I tried the 'faulty' disc in my PC and it worked fine, no problems.

For some reason though, it's just completely refusing to play in my DVD players (multi region), my PS2 and my Xboxes.

I can't try another DVD-R though yet, as I have somehow run out! But at least I know the disc actually works as it ran fine in the PC...

Hmm, well the DVD+RW was burned at 1x (to be on the safe side) and the DVD+R was done at 4x (I forgot to lower it). Maybe it would be worth a try at knocking the speed down...

Totally didn't think of that, but it sounds like a good explanation, other than faulty disc - which I have yet to determine.

You didn't burn it to a faster speed than what your DVD player can read did you? I have read posts from people who have had the problem where if they burn it too fast sometimes their DVD player will just scan the disc and not pick anything up. This shouldn't really happen, as the nature of DVD drives is to read at a fast speed.

Worth a check though, trying burning at a half way speed and see what result you get.

Have you tired the discs that you have before? Could be your DVD player doesnt like the DVD-Rs. Try it on another stand alone player or your PC. If it works else where then your player doesnt like the discs or maybe just that disc. If it doesnt play on any other player then it could be a faulty disc or something.

Thanks for the tip - got it succesfully burned - kinda!

I put it on a DVD-RW first off, it failed right at the end because it couldn't write a lead-out. Mysteriously, it worked in my DVD player.

So I burnt it on a DVD-R and it completed 100%. Only it won't play in my DVD player :S

Any ideas as to why that happened? Everything was exactly the same - only difference was Disc type, R and RW, both '-' versions.

If you got PowerDVD maybe another program then you can test the DVD out fully with out burning it. In PowerDVD where you select which DVD drive to use you can select to play DVD files off the hard disk. If you do this you can see what the DVD should turn out like once its burnt.
