In the past I've often given answers such as "It's more fun than just watching television." Or "It helps me to relax." This last week or so, my Nintendo has been there for me, when I feel like I've really needed it.
As you may know, my wife recently had a baby by Caesarian section. As a result I'm looking after our 2 children, as well as her. between them they're keeping me rather busy, but there's usually an hour or so during the day in which they're all asleep.
It is this time that is keeping me sane!
During this time I usually stick a game in the N64 and play for a while, until I'm next called upon. The game itself isn't really that important, whether it's trying to comeback from 4-0 down to Italy when playing as Wales in ISS' Scenario mode, trying to locate Jiggies in Banjo Tooie or blast the Trade Federation in Battle For Naboo, it all works.
What I've realised in the last week is that I don't just play games to wind down, or to relax. I play games for the adventure, and the escapism that it brings.
Life is good, but there are only so many nappies you can change, and feeds prepare before you begin to feel very washed out. Gaming is the thing that takes me away from it for just a little while. Just long enough to give me the energy to return to all of the many tasks that children and a recovering wife brings.
Of course, I know better things are to come, Malibu can almost hold the N64 pads now, so a few years down the line I'll have enough people at home for some great 4 player gaming fun, whenever I need it!
meka_dragon: Having children so that there will always be someone he can beat at Goldeneye since 1999.
:P
Dear me, I want kids now....I am not the best gamer in the world, I can just about pull of a Peoples elbow in No Mercy and complete a lap in an hour of Mario Kart.
Gaming helps me relax, but only when I don't get stressed...with the game that is...not life.
Life is great....just living is experience enough!
Anyway....
I love the motto....CLASSIQUE
The Game
(Sorry Ant)...^_^
