Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus by Ludwig Wittgenstein. True masterpiece. Or the first 150 pages of Thus Spoke Zarathustra by Friedrich Nietzsche.

"Empire of the Sun" by J.G. Ballad is my all-time favourite; it's about Japanese prisoners in China during the Second World War, based on the author's own experiences. Second place goes to "In Durance Vile" by John Brown. Boring title, but it's basically the memoirs of a British POW who was also a spy- some pretty funny events as well, such as men swimming across a canal to get to a brothel, anti-German snowmen and making Germans look like idiots.
