Why exactly have SONY amassed such a huge reputation in the field of computer games? sure, they make great entry level hi-fi's and gorgeous TV's, but games? uh, no. They rely purely on third party developers to make the big hits that we know and love on the PS. However... what would happen if these developers abandoned ship and decided to annouce their loyalty to a machine that's easier to write for... such as the dreamcast? There's still a good few months yet before the playstation 2 comes out and sells billions of units... whilst having extremely poor software sales I'll bet. If the dreamcast can garner enough industry respect for their 128 bit baby, and harness a good percentage of those misguided fools (sorry... 'casual gamers') waiting for the PS2, it may just stand a chance against the PS2 juggernaut. I've seen the PS2 in action, My uncle bill (honest!) lives in japan, and has one, with many of the launch titles. I visited him for two weeks... and was thoroughly disappointed. I think we spent more time on soul calibur then we did on every PS2 title put together. Granted, KESSEN looks great, but I simply can't think of any other titles I'd want at this time. Plus the accidentally multi region DVD players pretty cool. If sega can capitalise on the dc's online capabilities, and the fickle fools (sorry again... 'casual gamers') recognise that PS2 could well be to PSX what the mega cd, saturn and 32X were to the megadrive. Just as the dreamcast seems to be what the playstation was to the... umm.... oh no, SONY actually has no experience in this field at all. not the best position to be in really.

I'm sure that you will buy a PS2, when you do this then you will gain more `respect` for the system, I don't think you can judge unless you have fully viewed all it's capabilities, firstly it will be the first conole with a dvd, it will be some time before the good games start to come in.
I was thinking the other day about the hundreds of games that Sony piles out each month, and this is a good thing, eventhough you get a lot of bad ones, rayman, jumping jack flash, just to name a few that would be better on a game boy, but anyway, this is good because you get many games all with the same plot and same kind of weapons, e.g. spec ops, rainbow 6, medal of honour, and then you are given the choice out of all of them, this is a great idea, whereas the N64 has one greatly improved version of the ps title, but I said, it has ONE!! this is it's downfall, and the only one that I can think of, it doesn't produce enough games.
But you also said that if the game producers of Sony left then Sony would be in trouble, but this is very unlikely, as Sony is such a big hit, and I know the ps2 will sell just as much.

I agree, it's a shame consoles are now treated like clothing brands, being seen as great despite having probably a load of rubbish clothes in their catalogue. you make a good point though.
