Recently nVidia, which makes the graphics engine for Microsofts Xbox, releaseed its chip to the plants for production, i strongly suspect some will find their way to PC cards, and so make it possible to play Xbox games on a PC. Theres a buzz that the Xbox will act as a PC, despite Microsofts proclamations that it is just a console.
But what if the economics change between now and the release date?
Is there a chance that the Xbox could be converted into a cheap PC?
Was that Microsofts plan alll along? Microsofts flirtations with gaming have been steady over the years. The primary thrust has always been to sell more windows PC's. the company now controls some of the hottest PC games and controlling devices around.
Much of its struggle has been to get developers to use activex as the control mechanism, so why suddenly split off a games console?
Based on the companies practices the Xbox must surly be its Trojan horse. Even if the Xbox is purly a console,I doubt its games will be limited to the device and not extend to play on windows XP. And note the use of XP. While Microsoft claim XP stands for Experience, I suspect it will mean X plus when the product ships.
The leter X will soon appear on loads of devices and X compatability will be promoted. This is a marketing ploy waiting like a cocked trigger to fire.
