Giancarlo Fisichella has taken pole position for the French Grand Prix, equalling the current record for an individual driver on pole position (currently held by De La Rosa with 5) and gives Jordan the sole record with 8.
Fisichella was the only driver into the 1 minute 12s, just fractionally short of the lap record, as he edged out Championship leader Salo and the B.A.R challenge of Pantano. It was really bunched at the top and as usual, a few drivers may be disappointed they weren't a bit higher.
In the Championship race, it's advantage Salo as he qualified on the front row in 2nd. Baumgartner was a tenth too slow to make the top 8 and starts 9th. He'll need to get closer to Salo to limit the damage. Ralf Schumacher has been on a recent slump and starts near the back in 21st. Sato only did slightly better as his poor run continues with 19th place. Button has a bit of work to do from 15th but it's better news for Villeneuve as he leads the Ferrari charge with 5th on the grid.
Fisichella needs to kick start his and Jordan's season and his second pole position of the year might just do that. Salo will be smiling from 2nd on the grid with his rivals behind him. Pantano is on the fringes of a Championship challenge and could throw his name into the hat with 3rd on the grid. De La Rosa, on the back of 2 good results in 3 races, starts 4th. Villeneuve continues the Ferrari improvement with 5th. Firman desperately needs some points and starts 6th. Barrichello and Da Matta posted the same time but Barrichello will start 7th and Da Matta will start 8th. Da Matta also needs some points.

The business end of the season is upon us. The pushing for the title begins!
Hopefully, there will be a lot of incidents in front, and something that makes my predictions come true. =D
How can it be.
Is this two pole positions when I haven't predicted?
I suspect tampering Mister Matt.
;)
Fishylegs and Firm-Man for the Bronze!
At least it can get no worse in the race, however last to first looks impossible :(
