A plane and a helicopter collide in mid-air. Now, I've flown a light aircraft before, and I can tell you that it would take some doing to actually hit another object up there. Firstly, there's equipment designed for this sort of thing not to happen, and secondly, air traffic control towers are aware of near-objects in airspace over the UK, so there would have been proximity warnings. Obviously it's tragic if there are casualties (how could there not be?), but I'm just flummoxed as to how someone can do that. I know only one person clumsy enough to crash a plane into a helicopter, and for that reason we don't let him go to North Weald market anymore, in case he freaks out and tries to invade Paris.

Ooo, an invasion of Paris? Might be a laugh.

The ONLY thing where they might collide is where one comes up from below, on the 'blind spot'...but that does not negate the technology.

How could you not SEE another aircraft? Tragic, but amazing.

I've heard that the chances should relate to that of 2 golfballs colliding in mid-air from opposite ends of the green.

Or something like that.
