I'm currently using BitTornado right now, but see a few of you using this Azureus program. What's so good about it? Can you resume a torrent after switching your computer off? That's the single biggest feature I'm after as sometimes I just don't want the hum of my PC interrupting my sleep.

Also, I thought I had the download speed thing figured out, but I'm still getting poor transfer rates (over 4000 hours estimated?!). My ZoneAlarm has been disabled sometimes, my Netgear is forwarding the correct port range so I don't understand why I'm still getting such crappy download speeds.

Any tips would be appreciated,
Thanks.

When you reopen the torrent you should select the same folder you used first time around - BitTornado then goes through the file checking which bits are there and resumes. Azureus is better at this because it puts some extra info in the file so that resuming is instant: much nicer than starting to download a dvd again and having to listen to your hard drive make choking, near-death noises for five minutes. Azureus also resumes things automatically when you start the program so you don't have to search around for individual torrent files.

Edit: and for really big files I've noticed a speed increase over bittornado. Could be a coincidence though.

Buh? Could you explain how, for the absent-minded on here (i.e. me)?

When I close a torrent and start again, it starts from the beginning.

Do I choose the existing file/folder when it asks me where to save or something? Maybe I'm missing something completely obvious, maybe it does actually resume but looks like it's starting from scratch. I don't know.

I use the Linux version of BitTornado and it seems to work OK.

Your speed generally does increase over time.

All bittorrent programs, including Azureus, support resuming of torrents.

I use bittornado and it seems fine.

What speed is your broadband?
Does the circle indicating your connection go green?

You using XP's firewall at all or is it disabled?
