"Newcastle have completed the signing of Leeds midfielder James Milner on a five-year deal worth up to £5m. Milner had penned a new five-year deal at Elland Road only last year but agreed with a "heavy heart" to be sold to help the cash-strapped club."

From BBC.co.uk

Tribburs won't be happy, I remember him saying that Milner was as good as Rooney, but being a Leeds fan he's entitled to be a little biased I suppose.

Not a bad buy for Newcastle, but £5mil? I expected him to go for less I must say.

He played central against Marseille and against Villa, two massive games that he failed to bother turning up for, in fact his lack of effort in both was something quite amazing really for a player supposedly wanting to make it in the Premiership. You are telling the wrong person what position he should be played in, I live for Newcastle United.

I will say it again, he has been extremely poor for Newcastle, either on the left or in a central position. He doesn't have the work etheic of a central midfielder, especially not in the Premiership which is the most demanding league in Europe.

He's never been played in the proper position, he is a central midfielder, if you'd seen in the under 21 european championships you'll know what he can do, i'll say it again WORLD player of the year, not european.

He hasn't lived up to it. It all showed up against Merseille where he was quite frankly disgraceful, the folliwng home game I was up at St. James and the recepition he received when his name was called out was totally deserved.

side from the first game he played which he scored for us in the Champions League Qualifier he just hasn't fitted in. When he has been given the chance he hasn't taken it.

Glad to see the back of him.

A couple of times I saw Viana I was largely impressed, maybe its just me, but why is he being shown the door? Didn't you shell out a few million for him?

I twas on Newcastle World TV a week or so back. Beattie is another possiblity along with the Portuguese full back Miguel and of course Nicky Butt.

Watched an interview from Milner on World TV earlier, very promising buy to add to an already very young squad. Hopefully now Viana will be on his way and possibly even Robert in a part exchange which has been rumoured for a while.

Eager to get the season started now after the extremely gutting last 12 months or so.
