The Adventures of Yet Another Lovable Creature - by Rickoss
Everyone adored him, they would perch him up on his king’s chair and would feed him, stroke him, treat him like the god he wished he was. His name was David Moyes, a little bunny rabbit with the world at his hands; his family loved him, he had a lovely lady friend and, or course, he was a rabbit. He'd search around his pen looking for new things to do, hoping someone had accidentally left a hamster wheel for him build up his less-than-impressive muscles, perhaps even one of those ridiculous balls hamsters use so he could replicate his favourite stars from Gladiators, and get his own back on the Wolf who stalked his back yard every night, hoping to get a bit of fried rabbit for tea.
But like all rabbits, David seeked adventure. His sex life had died down since the little ones arrived, he found himself smoking frequently and the only real pleasure he got was from the mushrooms that grow where he has walkies. They made him happy, meet new friends and get away from the pressure of everyday life. Of course he still loved his life to bits, from the first time he shaves on the brittle wire when he wakes up to last thing at night when he finishes off his well-deserved carrot, his life was good. He enjoyed the ups and downs he came across. But he needed something new. He wanted a quest, not a rubbish one that Peter Rabbit endured, a proper, full-blown adventure.
So after a night of deep thought and contemplation, David started his day by chewing loose the flimsy wire that kept him where he is, grabbed a few of those tasty mushrooms on his way out and set off into the forest for the adventure of a lifetime. What was he to find? A talking tree? A group of brand new friends? David couldn't wait to see what lurked beyond the forest.
But after many hours of searching, all he found were more mushrooms, some rather rude owls and some insects. His dreams of an adventure were all gone, he was hungry and he needed a rest, so he began to chew on the mushrooms he gathered and sat down for a bit.
After fifteen minutes, David had polished off all the mushrooms he brought with him and even the ones that he settled down next to. As per-usual, he felt happy once again, but something happened he hadn't expected, for some unknown reason he began to see all the secrets that the forest was keeping from him earlier. Laughing two-faced bats began to flock around a nearby tree, calling out to David, the grass started to whistle a familiar tune whilst swaying to the rhythm and the old owl that was rude to David previously was suddenly very talkative.
He had been accepted into the forest navel like he'd always wished, he knew that there was something there and waited until the creatures finally felt he was ready. He was so ecstatic about what had happened that he completely forgot about the owl above him, who was desperately trying to tell the rabbit something. David, being as polite as he could, apologised to the elder owl, hoping this wouldn't affect his position in the navel, and asked if he could repeat what he said. While he did find it hard to understand the hooting of the owl, especially seeing as he was headbanging, David got the gist of what was trying to be explained to him. He must search for a door in the heart of the forest, protecting an almighty adventure.
As soon as he'd heard what the bird had to say, he set off in quite a hurry, trying to avoid the two-headed bats who, he was told, would try to steal his clothes. David moved further and further through the forest, passing a variety of different creatures on his way; from executive apes trying to sell him market shares to a moth birthday party he happened upon, never had he seen so many different animals working in harmony to make the forest complete. It delighted him that he was part of such a wonderful mechanic. He asked many of the locals where this mythical door was located, but only got the same answer every time, "My head hurts." He tried not to get angry by this unhelpful group of people, but carried on nonetheless.
Suddenly, David caught glimpse of something. From a distance it looked like a simple door from a garden shed that had been dumped at the heart of this wonderland, but as he moved closer there was more to it than he first thought. It glowed a bright yellow, began to shudder and move upwards, what looked like gold-dust spilling from the handle as it rose up to a levitating state. The door knob somehow formed a mouth, that choked as it filled with the very same dust it shed moments before. A cloud of dust moved towards the hapless rabbit, causing his eyes to water. The door spluttered words to David, warning him of what awaited him through the door ahead of him, what he could expect, what may happen if he ventured further. David didn't care. His adventure was about to start, he thanked the door and without a second thought raced through the legendary door to the heart of the forest.
Suddenly, there was no more forest. He had made it to a brand new world; the floor beneath him made of solid gold, with what looked like diamonds glinting in various spots. There was a light sailing towards him from far into the golden path, like two eyes glaring at him. It looked like his adventure was about to kick off...
His family never saw him again after that day. All the information they got is that a truck driver spotted him somewhere on the nearby motorway, ambling dangerously towards the wheels…
Hope you enjoyed it ;-)

hm. I won't, but if I did, I'm sure I'd set the rules so that you had to write a story with a peaceful storyline, maybe a children's story.
What I want is to see if anyone can write a serious story which isn't based on teenage angst, science fiction or some dark twisted tale. My thoughts are that (probably due to the talent on this site more than the subject) it's all too easy to write a good solid sci-fi or horror story, but much harder to write something more light hearted, but at the same time just as serious.
Think of all the great stories out there that aren't about war, death or giant spaceships. We can do it!
Plus...it will cheer me up.
Mine is definitely more tongue in cheek without the effort you undertook :)
This is stupid when you think about it. I hope pb wins the current writing competition and sets the theme as bunnies and love. That way we've already done our entries :D
