It's coming that point in my life calender where I have to decide, negotiate and toy with what I want to do with my future. Tutors, Teachers, Parents nagging away at every opportunity, bellowing at me "not to fail", the overwhelming amount of work being shoved constantly in my face. Everything hitting me from each direction like a bunch of catapulted hamsters, but you know what? I'm not letting it get to me, because I'm going to make it.
People take this negative attitude towards life, and it's becoming a problem, many of us underestimate what we are capable of doing, many of us give up on the first hurdle, it begs me to ask the question; why not just take something positive for once?
A positive outlook provides motivation, motivation provides effort, effort provides self-esteem. Just under a year ago I had this negative outlook on life, I thought college was a waste of time, I thought I wasn't clever enough for what is needed to reach that “higher step” in the ladder. What I failed to realize was that, I am myself. I have strong points, I have weak points, I have interests, I have myself.
As you may know, I got average grades at GCSE. Many people on these humble forums managed to achieve straight A's and what have you, but you know what? Grades mean nothing. Grades are just a mere letter on a piece of paper, An indication of how well you revised over a subject. Do they say what kind of person you are? No. Do they indicate what interests you? No. Do they show if you are willing to learn? No.
Grades are just a small aspect of life, an indicator to how much you revised a subject. It doesn't necessarily mean you are "good at it" at all, When someone passes their driving test - Are they a good driver? No, it just means they have the basic foundations for being able to drive. They have to conquer the aspects of being on their own in the "real world" , which is a challenge in it's own rights.
We are continually learning, digesting information, and excreting it when it comes to us, each and every day. We are being constantly conditioned for what to expect in life, what we should be doing, and what we shouldn't. The thing is, Why should we wait? We are told what to “expect”, why not just go out and try it? Because we are naive creatures, we fail to realize how to meet the expectations of the monster that is the “real-world”. What exactly is the “real-world” anyway? No-one knows, because it's just fiction, something to get our imaginations running wild.
Ever since I've managed to unlock this positive attitude towards life, I've discovered I am capable of climbing that ladder, I am capable of doing what I want to do, I am going to make it. I have the ability to get into University and learning something that makes me want to learn, and you know what? University's don't care if you got triple A stars, they want to know what you are.
Grades are just a small foundation for getting in, they want to know what kind of person you are before offering you a place. There's no point in accepting someone who got high grades but is as boring as hell, right? I may sound big-headed and naive, but I know I will make it into the realms of university and beyond because I lead a life that is interesting.
I have outside interests, I push myself to my limit, I build and maintain my own website, I have vast amounts of work experience, I'm learning to drive, I'm teaching myself the guitar, I've got 4 years experience in computer programming, in various languages, I lead a healthy social life, I love motor sport, I have a unique sense of humour, I adore music, I am me.
I believe in myself, I am going to sell myself to the university, not as a product, but a person. I'm going to submit my UCAS application with pride, I want to make it into that Games Computing course at Lincoln University, I won't let anything stop me.
I am able to make it.
(I bet you are unsure as to why I wrote this, but I had to get it off me chest, sorry)

Yes, exams are limited in scope, but if you're thick as slip no ammount of cramming will get you straight As.
I admire the attitude of the post, but a-level grades do count too. Just keep working at them.
On the lame calander at work, today's moto was 'the best way out of a difficult situation is through it'.
The calander's motos are usually full of slip, and I think there's still a healthy dose of slip (getting tedious now) in this one, but so far as exams are concerned, I figure it's good advice. Just keep working at it.
