See the thing is, NTL is crap and has random intermitant blips in its service causing the broadband to die occasionally, and sometimes resetting the digi box restores the service. So I've been restarting the digibox with no sucess (web pages will not load etc), however if I take the main network cable (the one directly from the digibox) out of my router and straight into the slot on the back of the computer I get a green light and it all works. When I put the network cable into the router and the network cable from the router into the back of the pc, I get an orange light and it doesnt work.
Now is it my router than randomly doesnt work or is there something the matter with NTL, or perhaps a bit of both? NTL's website service status says all is running smoothly, though I fail to see why the service would cut out randomly.
About the IP address, we had this problem before when the ntl service was down in the area and limited service was availible. It refused to acknowledge two IPs, but I think that was a service thing due to maintainence.
It seems to like me to restart everything and mess with the cables until it eventually works.
Ive got both computers working again now, though they still have orange lights at the back of the computer next to where the network cable plugs in.
I'm guessing the top-box doesn't understand the suddden change in IP address from the router, so it fails to work.
The only thing I can suggest is turn off your router, turn off your set-top box, slap the cables in, turn them back on again.
Might work? I'm not sure. I have one of those little NTL modems.
Edit: Does it work OK when you have it up and running, but screws when these 'blips' happen?
