MANCHESTER is to play host to some of wrestling's biggest names and a worldwide television audience this October when the WWE holds its first live TV event in the city.
World Wrestling Entertainment's chief executive officer, Linda McMahon, revealed that the company's stars would be touring the UK during October - and that the RAW TV show would be broadcast from Manchester on Octber 11.
The following night will also see the company tape its Smackdown show in the city.
It marks the first time the WWE has staged a live episode of RAW outisde the continental US, although UK only pay-per-view events and house shows have been held in the city before.
It will mean virutally a full compliment of the wrestling superstars on both shows will be in town, with performers such as Chris Benoit, Triple H, Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio appearing on the shows.
Although a venue has not been confirmed for the shows yet, the Manchester Evening News arena has played host to the WWE's previous events in the city - most recently in May - and negotiations are understood to be underway to stage the shows there.
Sky Sports shows the WWE's shows in the UK with Raw, the company's live Monday night show, being aired on Spike TV in the US.
Speaking in a conference call for the company's fourth quarter results, Mrs McMahon said: "In October, in an unprecendented move, we are going to tour both the Raw and Smackdown groups, and produce our TV from the UK, just as we are doing here in the US.
"We will have satellite tours for the Raw brand - four or five events - and we will have sattelite tours for Smackdown.
"They will culimate in Manchester, England, on approximately October 11 and 12, for the TV show."
She added that a follow-up tour and TV tapings would be done in the UK six months later as the WWE looks to expand its operations into Britain more often.
Tickets for the shows in the UK are expected to be snapped up within hours of going on sale as fans get their first opportunity to be seen on TV around the world.
Some of the company's biggest stars have come from the north west, including current Raw grappler William Regal, who is originally from Blackpool.

We're gunna be getting live shows on a more regular basis now! Oh my! They've known about this for a while, too, since someone at my other forums approached Dave Hebnor just to say hi etc and Hebnor said that something big would come to Manchester in October.
