Just looking at the amount of games that are going to be released on the next generation consoles baffles me, how can 400 games be in development for all of them, how I can I afford to buy 400 games?

(win gameaday 400 times)

Apart from winning gameaday 400 more times, it just isn't possible for anyone to buy more than 40 games for any console at full price in its lifetime, I reckon brandnew games that I have brought for the N64 totals about 20, and that is the same with the NES and SNES, although my collection as gone into the hundreds through internet buying.

Buying a Gamecube, I know that I will buy the main release games which will be Metroid and Mario, then I will sit back enjoy these and after a couple of months buy the other big games that I missed, like After Dark....

...a year goes by, I have about 8 (full price) brought games for my Gamecube and I will only buy the special games that are released after that (these normally include the suprisingly great classics that pop up now and again). With these RARE, NINTENDO and miscellaneous companies games I will not buy any more, the total amount would be about 40 games (15 being 2nd hand) for the whole of 'my' Gamecubes lifetime...

...hang on? 25 full priced games, what about the other 375 which are currently in development for all the other next generation console? Well what about them, these 'other' games expect to sell well but they won't, thats the problem because all Next-Generation buyers will buy the classic and great games for there desired console.

The problem for these companies now are what do they release? and the vital point, when?

Very true er-no.

Many people complained that there were only a few good games out for PS2-around 9 or 10 at the moment. The thing is, I have 5-2 of them won from gameaday! I can't buy all the good games, so it doesn't matter if there wasn't that many of them!

Maybe you'll never get to play all the good games released for your system, but don't forget the wonders of the game-rental system. For just a few of your pounds, you'll get two evenings (normally) experience of a given title. You can probably rent around ten titles for the same price you can purchase one. Now, if each rental is generally two nights, that's almose three days of play if you rent it out in the morning. That equates to about a month of rentals for the same price as one purchase, and you've played ten times as many games.

I don't know about you, but I find it VERY unusual for a game to last me anywhere near a month, unless it has an exceptional multiplayer mode - therefore rental seems to be much the better option. You'll play significantly more of the 400 or so releases for your system, and always have a fresh challenge awaiting.

Or course I'm ignoring the second hand value of games here, but I prefer to think of that as a discount off my new console, rather than a return on my old games.

(It would be rather hard. Only Grix can hear the voices in his head. I'm rather camera shy, anyway.)

"(win gameaday 400 times)"

I would rather you didn't tell other people our plans.

(As I said, I enjoy mind hopping.)

I can imagine what you tell people to do...

hmmm... but remember 2 things. First some games are targetting a particualr audience. I might buy every single good fighting game for a console, but no Puzzle games for example. Second, is that this many means that people need to make games that are either exceptional, or original, or both. The standard will increase (hopefully!)
