Can anyone tell me what "canvassing competitive media" means in plain english? Searching on Google just throws up the term and not the meaning!
I get the feeling its something really simple, obviously I know what canvassing is, but I just don't see how the term can relate to increasing sales of advertising??

Alright. Although I don't consider myself of utmost authority on marketing terminology, I'll give this a swing.
"Canvassing competitive media" is when companies research the competition's advertising strategies, for both cash cows and dogs alike, to figure what's worked and what hasn't. Thus, narrowing the advertising focus for their product or service toward specific target markets and demographics. By analyzing these variables, they develop a competitive niche. Hence, an increase in sales by exceeding market standards and/or expectations through titalating and wow-ing advertisement.
