Today I gad french exam and there was this question:

Complete:
-Le President.......a remercies de leurs efforts.

So I thought that the reasonable answer would be "Leurs" but when I got out of the exam every body said I'm wrong and the answer is "Les". So which is correct ?

les is also the direct object pronoun of ils and elles. e.g. it means them.

'Les' is effectively a plural 'the'.

Les chiens - the dogs.
Le chien - the dog.

If you're saying 'the' to a plural, you use les.

nope, it is indeed "et toi?" (object pronoun) - be impressed

oh and i reckon it's les for the original post. i'm trying to give up french but doing an exchange in the summer so i've still got some of it. I think Leurs would mean The President thanked to them for their efforts. While Les would just skip the To.

I just did Stupid Standard Grade French (which had a folio which was great and easy) and then sadly Higher French which i've probably messed up completely. But I could do the grammar, and little else. Why don't the french just learn english and give up their language? It would make things so much simpler.

We didn't do coursework, thankfully.

I quite enjoyed my french tests, was tres bien (as much as a test can be)

I'm proud to say i got an E in French GCSE, and i would have got an F if it wasnt for Altavista and my dumb French teacher who knew i didn't know any Frech in class but doing coursework at home made me billiant at it.

Well, according to freetranslation.com (because my French sucks):

'les' would result in: "The President has them thank of their efforts."

'leurs' would result in: "The President their has thank of their efforts."

All translations require a little tweaking, but I'd say 'les' was correct. Then again, my French does in fact suck, so I might be wrong.
