I don't understand how they work cos with glasses you have to get tested for lense strength so they can make the right lenses that you need, but with contact lenses do you just buy them straight away without needing to test your eyes or what?

It's always best to go straight to your Optician if you're interested in getting contact lenses.

They'll need to, first of all, whether your eyes will be fine with them and, then, how-often you're likely to want to wear them (so they know which lenses are best-suited to you, price-wise).

But, if you're eyes are too sensitive, and you can't keep them in, you'll be out of luck.

Daily ones are good is you don't want to wear them that often. Usually about £30 for a pack of 30 pairs, and you just chuck 'em out once you're worn them. Otherwise, like me, if you want to wear them almost every day, you'll be better off with monthyl/fortnightly ones, which work out cheaper at £15 a month, but also require cleaning and good looking after each time you take them out.

I think you can also get YEARLY ones, too...! :o

I've got monthly ones that I get changed every 2 weeks. It's good that way. Unless, of course, you manage to rip the thing within your first week!

If you do get some lenses make sure they have a really high water content, 80%+, and get disposable ones if you can afford/justify them. The higher the water content the more comfortable the lenses are, disposable contacts are more hygienic (especially dialy ones) as there is no cleaning required. Oh and don't wet your fingers with tap water before putting the contacts onto your eyes. There's some nasty bugs in tap water and there have been a spate of really really bad eye infections that can cause blindness, that contact wearers have experienced due to this and ineffective cleaning regimes.

Being the vain git i am, i want to try out those coloured contacts that you can buy but i was slightly put off by being told to consult my doctor first as i've had slight problems with my eyes before.
Don't you find them irritating, the idea if having something stuck to my eyes has put me off slightly as well.

Contacts are brilliant. I love them. Having lived over a decade with glasses I'm really seeing the benefits of contacts. Apart from obviously looking better with them (although glasses give you that intelligent look), there are other things like you can walk through rain and be able to see without wiping your glasses.

However just hope that your eyes agree with them. Although eyes don't really react terribly badly it's just a bummer if you can't wear them. I've got monthly ones that I get a sixth month supply of in advance after getting my eyes checked. They just add a few minutes on to each end of the day for putting them in and taking them out.
