The "General Games Chat" forum, which includes Retro Game Reviews, has been archived and is now read-only. You cannot post here or create a new thread or review on this forum.
An attempt to win gameaday takes on a neutral, almost reportage style of writing, with serious attempts at statement and grammatical consistency.
It doesn't matter if this posting is entirely out of sync with the rest of my sort of postings. Whilst I can see that 99% of my usual output within the FOG are humorous and non-sensical, I really pull out the dictionary and take on a newsreader tone to impress enough to win without really saying anything.
It doesn't matter that previous wins at Gameaday have been in a usual chatty method of posting, it would appear by taking a serious standpoint, although a dry posting occurs, I feel that I should win, merely because I type loads and am very serious about it all.
Ok, end of boring and dry typing.
Do you see the point though?
As soon as I start reading one like that, I think "Uh-huh, wonder what's the goal with this one?"
I ain't criticising, just pointing out the ways you can spot an obvious attempt to win.
Here's a hint though, go back and read some of the winning posts and you'll find that these safe and dry postings rarely win, yeah they may be informative but they sure are dull.
Enough with the "News at Ten" approach, write what you think, in the style you usually do and it wont sound as false as some do.
"What you need...you know I got...so hands up...who wants to rock?"
Goatboy has spoken.
I wasn't having a pop at anyone, just saying that I read some and instantly think "Oh hello..." and dont bother to read any further because they have "please take this seriously so that I may win something" stamped all over them.
I've won a couple of times, and not with lengthy and noble posts, mainly because it never occurs to me to try and win.
But enough of such prattle.
"Lewis, why did you get knocked out in the 5th?"
"Dunno, nothing to do with the fact I underestimated him, no siree, no way"
You should give more to people who post something informative not humourous.
Of course, something entertaining, written in an entertaining way, is far more likely to win.
