As much as i would like it credited to him as its always nice to have nice goal to game ratio's for our strikers it is absolutely ludicrous to even attempt ot credit that to him! it was the difinitive own goal! you don't get any more significant own goal than turning a ball going directly forward 180 degrees around into your own goal. there is absolutely noway on earth UEFA will credit it to him, just because it makes the papers story better.

You look at goals like Tuidor's OGGY, it was an OGGY but it wasa minimal deflection which infairness just turned in a shot that was going in. Thats what an own goal is a goal that would not have occured with out contact with opposition player which usually was unlikely to go in otherwise. Rooney's was travelling in the opposite direction from the goal.

Great game from Rooney but he won't get the credit.

Official - The official Euro 2004 people (don't know who they are - is it FIFA?) have given the goal to Wayne Rooney as it was on target (It said on the radio for any one who wants to know or try and prove me wrong). :P

As Frank Skinner said, 'Get that tramp out of the goal!'

Good to see that the goal's been credited to Rooney though: For his effort, he deserved it. And an own goal never looks very good on a CV, does it? =D

It should be an own goal, not rooney's.

Personally, I feel that if you smash the ball that hard, anything could happen, therefore I think Rooney should get the credit. Anyway, what's with all this placement malarky these days. What happened to just smashing the ball in the back of the net. If you ask me Owen needs to take that page out of Rooneys book, because lately Owen is going for placement and not succeeding.

Hasn't Rooney already been given credit for that goal or am I seeing things again? That first France goal was originally given to Silvestre and then it was changed to a Tudor own goal during the match.
