Anyone remember that episode of Red Dwarf, in which the crew thought that they'd simply been playing a game for the last few years?

A game that they were wholly immersed in.

Do you think that anything quite like this will ever exist, and would anyone actually want to play it?

It could take up years of your life. You would actually believe that what you were doing was reality.

Maybe you'd be on a ship, like the Red Dwarf. Maybe it would take on a Total Recall type angle, with you actually believing that you were a sent to save Mars.

I can't see anyone wanting to immerse large amounts of their lives to this kind of thing, but the 'holiday' idea of it, in which you could become a spy for a week or something may well be quite successful.

Can you ever visualise something like this existing in the future of gaming, and would you be interested in trying it out?

Hmmm... ever seen eXistenZ... David Cronnenburg film where people plug themselves into computer games! Games developers are hailed as geniuses that they are, and there are people opposed to the whole idea! Must see for all games fans!!
