Thanks but didn't take up any of these useful suggestions, just hoovered out the PS2 to clean loads of dust. Seems ok now
gas mark 5, about 40 minutes, turning over occasionally.
make sure juices run clear before removing

when people say the PS2 is the height of 'cool' gaming, it doesn't necessarily mean you can store it in the freezer.
Throw it out the window.
