because watching a washing machine go round and round is about as boring as watching a tennis match? So it's only obvious the two go together. I'm just waiting for the paint adverts to start coming out, although i think both michael owen and shearer have cornered that market
All tennis players are fairly recognisable to most people, so generally the advert will appeal to a wide audience. Also, the reason they are chosen above football players is because of the stereotypical image that all tennis players wear white. And getting things white, or clean, is a washing powder's job. Oh, and there is the small aspect of Wimbledon in a week or so.
