I used to have a couple of Transformers books which ran along these lines where you were a particular character (not necessarily an existing one) and dictated the events and actions of your fellow Autobots against the Decepticons.
Wouldn't this be great for an interactive DVD? Imagine watching a film and getting to a point where YOU could decide what happens next!
It would work better if the film was made for this reason alone rather than adapting a normal film with this as an extra but we've already had some films where you can view alternate endings, extended branched versions and so on so isn't this just the next logical step?
Admittedly the film being made specifically for this purpose which would probably kill of the idea straight away but, hey, a guy can dream can't he? Would it really be all that difficult to do as a fairly cheap animation for kids? No. However, as far as I can remember, these sort of books were never a massive success anyway so I doubt anyone would see it as a gap in the market waiting to be filled....or would they?
Before DVD really took off we were tempted with the prospect of being able to mess about with scenes (existing and deleted) in a film to create our own version (A DIY directors cut sort of thing) but nothing has come of it. Yet.
How do I know this, well I was trying to think of an idea that would work with this template of choice, but it is impossible, you could have like a shooting and then a flash with the choice.
'Will the Good Guy die?'
and then you vote,
well maybe? or as the polish would say, 'Maybe Tommorrow'.
