Zsolt Baumgartner has taken his 2nd career pole position and has now been at the front for the last 3 F1 sessions. Baumgartner just pipped last year's pole sitter Ralf Schumacher and World Champion Ralph Firman.
Baumgartner has to be considered a real challenger for the title as his consistency in scoring points and his recent form shows Championship qualities.
Out of the current Championship challengers within 10 points of the Championship lead, the Championship leader, Salo, is just on the fringes of the points in 9th place. Sato has a lot of work to do if he wants to be in contention, he starts 21st. Button, again, looks in prime position to add more points to his tally, starting 7th. Baumgartner starts 1st with Ralf Schumacher in 2nd. Pizzonia is also in for a lot of work starting 18th and Villeneuve is in the midfield in 14th.
So Baumgartner, in his first season, is at the front and in the best position in pole position. Ralf Schumacher needs a bit of a revival and is in a great position to do it from 2nd on the grid. Firman needs points and has blown a few chances with car problems and mistakes but is in position again with 3rd on the grid. Montoya gives Williams a bit more to smile about with 4th. Coulthard just out qualifies Raikkonen and they are together on the grid in 5th and 6th respectively. Button will be looking to add more points to his tally from 7th and Minardi have both cars in the points again with Verstappen in 8th.
