On a TV Documentary, some policemen needed to warrent to enter this guys flat so one of the policemen rang up someone to get one sent down.
But what if it was 3am and the courts were closed, how would you get a warrent then? Would you have to wait til the courts are open?
Thanks

No.
Littering is not arrestable, but I could arrest someone for it.

Like? If they do something which they can be arrested, surely thats still an arrestable offence?
The only warrant arrests we seem to make are when people have failed to turn up for a court appearance.
We can nick people who are, who we believe to be, where we believe an offence has been committed and the person we think has done it.
We can also arrest people for non-arrestable offences, but I can't be assed to go into it.
Basically, I have a lot of power. Fear me.

What if you caught someone doing an arrestable offence, could you arrest him on the spot or do you have to wait for a warrent?
Warrants are things we need to get signed by magistrates. We then have "powers". Yes, be scared people, I have power.
Under some circumstances I could enter, (no jokes), with the authorisation of my Inspector, and sometimes without it.
Also, if we really need a warrant signed we'd just wake a magistrate up and get him to sign it.
