Still don't know where this myth came from. Having lived over in America for around 2 years and being in Canada for 3 and a bit months i can say they grasp irony perfectly well.

neither of those fit the criteria of irony, they're just bad luck. in fact none of the examples in the entire song are irony, just examples of coincidence or bad luck. stupid canadian woman. mind you, those the other side of the pond never could grasp irony, could they?

They aren't ironic tho. The're just unlucky. The only ironic thing about the song is that its called ironic yet non of the things are ironic and she doesnt realise.
