Let’s face it, most gamers these days conquer the dragon or do ninety round a track during the day. Most of us will always remember beating our best ‘time attack’ score during the day and even remember the most classic moment in gaming to our point of view during the daytime.

But what about the time when the sun does not shine and the clouds cannot be seen? Do these ‘after hours’ ever give us the best out of gaming? One things for sure, I think they can, they can bring out a whole new atmosphere out of the world that is already created within a game and that new world is in reality.

Ok, the game may be the same but how can we actually benefit from gaming when there is no light around us and the only sound that is heard is the tapping of buttons on our control pads?

Firstly, have you ever been right into a game and then suddenly the gaming world you have been put in is ruined by a member of the household? A good example of this is your Mum rudely dusting then suddenly dusting your TV set making a comment such as, “Just wiping your windscreen” whilst on the last lap of an endurance race. It’s like reading a book, you get right into the story and then you have to stop at a critical point. The whole atmosphere is ruined. This is where nightly gaming can come into good use, the whole house is quite and everyone is asleep. Leaving you alone to include yourself into the game without any interruptions.

Another thing good about gaming when the moon rises high is that your part of the Earth is dark. That’s one thing you don’t have during the day, total darkness. You have to admit that a horror movie is excellent in the dark and so why can that not be for a game. One’s with great storylines do the trick here, you do not worry about your surroundings, as you cannot see them and you are totally in with the game. The dark is a unique added dimension, use it to your advantage in those games where you feel it would come in need.

But what are the cons to this?

Well, there are many. Here are just a few:

1. Due to lack of sleep you may plunge to the ground, snoring over your N64.

2. You may find yourself disturbing the whole neighbourhood with your excessive tapping or loud surround sound noises.

3. You may miss the start button in a savage attempt to pause the game.

4. You may find yourself so involved with the story that you witness the rising of the Sun.

5. Finally, you may turn off your TV screen and be left in total darkness. Lost in your living room.

So, why not try nightly gaming sometime. It may be an experience you enjoy, or even and experience you just can’t stand.

Whatever the time gaming is there to be enjoyed, but think how you could enhance your gaming experiences with that of the real world that surrounds you.

I think that your standerd of play does improve once you've had you beauty sleep.

I remember on many occasions that I was up late in the night trying to beat my scores or trying to accomplish something in a game, I couldn't do it after trying time after time.

Then I came down in the morning and beat it first time!

Just spotted this one: "1. Due to lack of sleep you may plunge to the ground, snoring over your N64."

It isn't just a lack of sleep that causes these symptoms - something like a lack of games perhaps? Anyway - I've read through your post more carefully again, and it's interesting - whenever I used to go on holiday with my parents and the flight was at like 7am, so we had to leave at around 4am, I always played Championship Manager until it was time to go!

More recently though, last year I suppose I managed to stay up until 3am trying to beat my crazy jump distant! I think I managed 376m!! Oh well, I'll be revising tonight.

Cheers Dan!

No consoles, well you always have your PC if that is up to scratch!

Best to do well in education first though. As my Mum said, education before games!

Yes, Mummy :->

An excellent post! Maybe the first GAD winner for this forum? Interesting discussions. I don't play on any consoles any more! Well, not until I have done my exams :)

Thing is, we know if a game is boring if we drop off during the night.

If it is gameplay we just love we would not fall asleep that easy :->

He's back =)

I do a lot of my gaming at night, in the holidays at least..but then again I sleep through most of the day. I do multiplayer PC titles in the evening to meet some mates from America, and it's great for the atmosphere in some games, the resi series, or something with a constant chilling feel like Silent Hill. Fun though, looking forward to trying some next-gen survival horror titles through the night.

Reaper goes off to find Resi 2 again

Over the years I've become very jaded after many bad experiences with customer services, you have bucked the trend. Polite and efficient from the Freeola team, well done to all involved.
