Im considering getting a laptop because Im not at home as much as I used to be so it would be handy to have one. Im on a budget of about 700 quid and the laptop isnt really for games etc so stuff like graphics cards isnt too important, and 20GB upwards will do. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Whatever you do, do not buy a Toshiba laptop. They are among the most useless pieces of junk available: Not only are they poorly equipped and slow, but no computer is quite as unreliable. Plus, there is basically no battery life on them.

Get a Laptop from Dell- you can get a discount from ordering directly, and they are pretty good quality. Otherwise look at products from Iridium. My advice, though, is to get one with only the features you require, not pointless extras you will never really need.

Don't buy from Special Reserve I checked around when Myst was after one, came across many that had better specs and were far cheaper (including VAT and P&P)

You can get a pretty good desktop computer for £400

For 700 quid I wouldn't bother. Mine cost 800 and isn't all that fantastic for upto date games. Other programs are fine but games, phft. Don't get me wrong, I do love my laptop *strokes laptop* but it's just not all that for games.

The fan is annoying too, and hot.

Use the 700 to get a decent desktop instead.

I got an Iridium one that SR do and it's great.

Uses battery power like a beast though!

If you can't get it from here, look here.

Don't buy anything from PC World ect as they're crap and overpriced.

Points to menu on left of this topic. See the section on Laptops. They're really pretty good for the price.
