Well, if the worst comes to the worst and you're completely unprepared for a zombie outbreak then you'll probably be shambling along with the rest of the undead, drooling and moaning (though for some people that'll be an improvement). But if, on the other hand, you had the foresight to purchase Max Brooks' 'Zombie Survival Guide' - extracts of which can be found online if you http://www.zombiesurvivalguide.com - you might just have a chance of staying alive (insert your own zombie Bee-Gee joke here).

Max Brooks's offering takes for granted the fact that zombies do in exist, all zombie outbreaks having been dealt with and covered up by various government organisations. It's completely deadpan in tone but will still have you smiling as you realize just how much heart the author must have put into his subject, not only drawing inspiration from a number of zombie movies but featuring ideas never seen on the silver screen.

This wholly practical guide tells you what you need to maximize your chances or survival, as well as detailing the physiology of zombies - Brooks's zombies are virus-driven - and a comprehensive list of known zombie outbreaks. It's split into a number of chapters including 'Zombies - myth and reality', 'On the Run' 'Weapons and Combat Techniques' and 'Living in an Undead World' and others. Thinking of fleeing your home and taking refuge in a hospital? Not a good idea, Brooks points out, as thanks to their frequently well stocked morgues, Hospitals are hot-beds of the living dead. A better idea might be to fill your bathtub with water in case the water is cut off, get upstairs, and destroy your stairs so the living dead can't reach you. Or if your home is compromised and you have to flee, Brooks tells you how to best to make your escape - a bike being the best method of transport, surprisingly - and where to go. And how to stay safe once you get there.

A hugely enjoyable and fascinating book, The Zombie Survival Guide will provide hours of entertainment for any zombie-movie fan, not only since you'll end up coming back to it again and again but also because you'll start to notice those fatal mistakes made by the survivors in your favourite zombie film. Available for order from America as ISBN 1400049628 and getting a UK release this September as ISBN 071563318X, The Zombie Survival Guide is a fantastic read, written by an author who clearly relishes his subject matter and is a superb buy.

I read a review of this ages ago somewhere.

I'll not buy it due to the matter of fact a guitar is first on my shopping list.

Yep. I'm also the PR assistant for the publishers/producers of every game and film I've ever got kick out of. I'm a very busy person.
