I was exactly like that. The first three albums we're a load of rubbish, they was just a load of tosh smashed together to make some commercial death metal, you know why? Because of the albums producer, he deleted Mick Thompson’s scorching guitar solos, and just basically gave Slipknot that "riff nu death metal" image, that they didn't deserve.
All that is gone now, with the release of their fourth album - The Subliminal Verses. I got this album upon sheer curiosity, hearing that they had changed their producer and made something that could be justified as the bands full potential.
And boy, does it deliver. This album is good. And I mean, good, this is the Slipknot we want to hear, not some mixed out rubbish. It may be a lot of screaming and what not, but there are some melodic parts to it. It's amazing to see how far this band has come along since the days of Iowa.
Oh and there's an acoustic track, yes, that’s right, Slipknot, acoustic. Strange, how can a band who is know for their hardcore riffery and drop tuned mosh bridges do an acoustic track? Well, they've done it and it’s actually pretty decent.
On the guitar front, Mick Thompson can seriously shred like crazy, it’s insane, some of the solos are fast and dis-jointed, but it’s cool none the less.
Imagine this new album as a cross between early Slayer and Fear Factory, it's a defining moment for Slipknot, and I heartily recommend anyone should just give it a listen, after all, what’s to lose? I do warn you though, some of the tracks might not appeal to everyone, its better to listen to it when you are angry and just want to tear everything up. It's better that way
Oh and on the "slipknot wear masks!!!!111!" front, who gives a damn if they wear masks/thongs/fake moustaches, after all, you don't spend all day looking at pictures of them do you? It’s the music, not the image.
> This in fact only their third album. Hence the Volume 3 part.

Vol.3: Subliminal Verses
I've heard some of it and I have to agree that this time round it is not bad. Mick Thompson is a good guitarist and he's wasted in Slipknot. Corey Taylor is also a pretty good vocalist and also wasted. But Jordisan is pretty crap I think.
There are actually 3 acousticky (i made that word up) songs on here just to tempt you pondering people even more. Well lets say they have 3 soft songs.
There is even an EMO part in one of the songs 'Before I Forget' I can listen to it over and over as for some reason, the verse bit is one of the best parts i've ever heard in any song.
Nothing gay, like.

And Fear Factory? 'Lynch Pin' Fear Factory?
I huess I hate it, then.
Though that Lynch Pin was half decent.

Slipknots side-project, Stone Sour, did a few accoustic tracks which were rather goodish.
Corey taylor does have an incredibly good voice and it's a shame to see him waste it screaming into a microphone - I hope there's some good singing in this one, I might just be persuaded to ask you to lend me it.
