From the 'keepers we have, as hard as it is for me to admit it, David James is simply the best we have, given his experience and time in the game. And, the off-chance that he will make one decent save every once in a while (WITHOUT dropping the ball).
As for the defence, he's actually got it right, I feel.
Ashley Cole deserves credit for his Japan performance, and, althought Sol Campbell has barely looked half-decent in months, he's probably our best-bet to partner John Terry - at least he might "know" Henry a bit...
The midfield HAS to go flat across the middle of the park.
Zidane, Vieira, Henry... Playing with bent little diamonds means these winners will only open us up and rip us apart at the back, time and time again. Beckham on the right. Wayne Bridge - a LEFT-footer - on the left (plus, he adds a defensive dimention). Lampard and Gerrard in the centre - there were no 2 better midfielders in the Premiership this last season.
Paul Scholes should go up-top behind Michael Owen, I feel.
He's isolated on the left, and it just isn't working with him behind too. He needs more freedom. Behind Owen, he can also drop-back and aid the midfield battles.
Owen's still got some pace. He's still the best goal-scorer we have (in this squad, anyway). Emile Heskey comes in a close second, but he still needs a re-boosting of confidence after his Liverpool days, I believe.

Agreed, i'd stick Owen Hargreaves on the left, gerrand and Lampard in the middle and Becks on the right.
And as somebody suggested earlier - give Vassel a super sub rol - great idea.
Not the formation or squad i would choose from but the limitations of this game.
I'd go 3-5-2
Robinson
G.Neville
Cambell
Bridge
Beckham (Wide Right)
Gerrard (in holding position)
Lampard
A.Cole (Wide Left)
Dyer
Owen
Rooney
Turn the page around so the Goalie is at the bottom.
I used to think the same as you.

Methinks you got the sides mixed up... Neville left back and beckham left wing. With Bridge right back and Ashley Cole the star right winger....
Or maybe your tryin to confuse the french....
Aha good plan Lt. Foreman.

Wtf?
Beckham is a right midfielder. He has been for most of his career.
He tried playing centre mid for Real and it went ok but in the second half of the season he was poor.
And Sven always tries to play him there, but he is a right midfielder.

Wayne Bridge and Ashley Cole would be great together going down the left side. They'd overlap each other and swap positions. Both are great going forward and are both play well at left back.
We have Lampard, Scholes and Gerrard and we can't play them all. We need different sort of players in midfield. It's hard to leave 1 out never mind 2, but I think Hargreaves could do a great job on the right, while Beckham could be the main star in the centre alongside Gerrard (or maybe even Lampard.
Owen is the main priority up front and Heskey could be the man to link up with him. They know each other well and Heskey isn't as bad as paople work out to say he his.
This would be the second choice:

Vassell would be a super sub in both teams.
He is a fecking central midfielder, and a lot of these teasm reflect that. Dyer on the right, Becks and Gerrard in the centre.
