Baumgartner takes maiden win
Zsolt Baumgartner has taken his first ever Grand Prix at Monaco and is fast gaining a reputation of a regular points finisher. It was a flawless lights to flag victory in what was a rather uneventful but strategic Grand Prix.
In a race of strategy, there are winners and losers. A missed timed pit stop could lead to you being stuck behind a slower car and a lot of lost positions. Montoya, Sato and Panis all got their strategies right, where Da Matta, Pizzonia and Michael Schumacher got it wrong.
There were only 3 retirements, making strategy even more important. Raikkonen was the first retirement as his car slowed to a crawl and stopped on lap 33 with transmission problems. The Jordan team are having a poor season and it didn't get any better as Firman retired with a water leak on lap 49. Fisichella only lasted a lap later as he crashed off camera on lap 50.
Baumgartner has a great chance of winning the title with this victory. De La Rosa couldn't keep up with Baumgartner but was a very comfortable 2nd to open his points account for the season. Montoya was held up early on but his strategy was spot on and finished 3rd. Verstappen wasn't particularly quick but held on comfortably for 4th. Coulthard got something for McLaren with 5th place. Button edges closer to the top of the Championship table with 6th place. Barrichello grabs a couple of points for 7th and Heidfeld picks up 1 point for 8th.

At least i am still winning the chamionship. Nice to see De la rosa FINALLY lets hope this is a sign of things to come and that maybe salo won't have to do all the work for MG F1 this season...
