In the future games will be so life like you wont no whats real and whats not. Graphics at the moment are great. Take Ecco for the dreamcast, the graphics are so lifelike you can actually believe you are underwater.
The only problem with that is the price. Playstation 2 is supposed to be £299. And newer consoles will be more expensive. Do a console with lifelike graphics could be very expensive from about £350 upwards and games coming out at £50 upwards. Not a lot of people can afford that kind of money. And with new consoles coming out all the time you buy one console then a few months later another console comes out thats better than that so you want that one as well.

I doubt that consoles will get more expensive... by the time the PS3 comes out, graphics chips will be both better and cheaper. To take an example, the PS launched at £300, and so will the PS2.
err I doubt that graphics will be so good that we couldn't tell the difference between a top game and real life, that is so unrealistic it's almost unbelieveable, you read too many comics and reall crap futuristic films, it's a sunny day, go outside and chat to your mates.
