A no-hoper shot by andrew johnson for palace on the 62nd minute was spilled by west ham goialie Stephen bywater, on which neil shipperly tucked in the rebound. In the next two minutes, west ham had two goals disallowed from connoly asnd reo-coker. Then, when steve lomas' 25-yard thunderbolt was the fantastically parried away by former play-off winner nico vaesen, you got the feeling it wasn't the iron's day.
And, with a 30 million pound prize and aplace in the premiershi[p elite, what a day for palace!!!
Could of picked up £60 from the Premiership Fantasy League, but ended up coming 2nd.
:) :(
I am surprised Steven Bywater remains to be their No.1 after all this time. He may be young, and some may rate his potential quite high, but, in all honesty - as excrutiatingly hard as it is for me to say such a thing - I think The Hammers were better off with DAVID JAMES in goal! :o
But, Bywater should by no means be to blame for West Ham's failure for an instant return to the top-flight. At the end of the day, it is all a team-effort. For when they couldn't stop the goal, where was their attack to assist in bringing them right-back into the game?
For a club to have lost international players like Joe Cole, Rio Ferdinand, David James (...) and several others in the last year-or-so, to have gotten this-close after so many troubles is surely a big enough achievemnt anyhow.
Perhaps expectations were just a little too high for this team to make an instant Premier League comeback for 2004?
Better luck next season! :)
And i've seen worse; Anelka earlier in the season along the by-line?

Erm, not quite, he was unsighted and didn't have very long to react - personally i thought it was a decent save, especially after the deflection.
Out of interest have you ever *properly* played in goal? It's harder than it looks. No way was that on par with Kahns spill.
Bad goalkeeping - No
Bad defending - Yes
