Zsolt Baumgartner, in only his 7th Grand Prix, has taken pole position in the most crucial of all pole positions, Monaco. It's an even greater advantage for Minardi, as Verstappen lines up right beside him on the front row.
Although overtaking is difficult, it is not impossible as some drivers have proven over the years. The top 2 in the Championship will have to do something magnificient if they want some points as Salo starts from 18th and Sato starts 20th.
It's advantage to Button and Pizzonia as they line up 7th and 6th respectively. It's also good news for one of the 3 drivers without points this season. De La Rosa is in a good spot to even challenge for a race win as he starts just behind the Minardi's in 3rd.
Baumgartner takes his first career pole position and Verstappen lines up alongside in 2nd. De La Rosa starts 3rd and Coulthard wants to kick start his season from 4th. Jordan are starting a mini revival with Fisichella finding high places a bit more regularly and starts 5th. Pizzonia and Button will be edging closer to the top with points if they can finish from 6th and 7th on the grid. Montoya starts in the final points place in 8th.

The forecast 45 minutes after qualifying ended was wet so for a spectacle, a wet race might interest everyone. Minardi will probably hope for a dry race but we'll have to wait and see. The race will be Wednesday so we'll see you there.
Sad indeed.
