I recieved this earlier from someone at work and think it's quite a good idea as I think it's sh*t wer'e paying 82p a litre. Read this if you have the time as I aggre with it and think some other people maybe interes**ted too. Admittedly it's a bit s**tupid when it says this can reach 30 million people but hey. . . . Here is the email.
- - - - - - - - - - - -
This is brilliant!!

This is a mus**t to for everyone.
Seriously, copy the text and send out an e-mail. Tell everyone you know!!
We all complain about the prices, and now we can all do something about it.
Pos**t it on every forum that you are a member of.

This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy petrol on a certain day"
campaign that was going around las**t April or May!

The oil companies jus**t laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't
continue to hurt ourselves by refusing to buy petrol.

It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them.

BUT, whoever thought of this idea has come up with a plan that can
really work. Please read it and join in!

Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to
think that the cos**t of a litre is CHEAP at 77p -80p, we need to take
aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace not
sellers. With the price of petrol going up more each day, we consumers
need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of
petrol come down is if we hit someone in the pocket by not purchasing
their Petrol! And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves.

Here's the idea:

For the res**t of this year, DON'T purchase ANY petrol from the two
bigges**t oil companies (which now are one), ESSO and BP. If they are not
selling any petrol, they will be inclined to reduce their prices.

If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit.

But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Esso and
BP petrol buyers. It's really simple to do!! Now, don't whimp out on me
at this point... keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach
millions of people! I am sending this note to a lot of people.

If each of you send it to at leas**t ten more (30 x 10 = 300)... and those 300
send it to at leas**t ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000) ... and so on, by the
time the message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have
reached over THREE MILLION consumers! If those three million get excited and
pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been
contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it..... THREE HUNDRED
MILLION PEOPLE!!! Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people.
That's all.(and not buy at ESSO/BP) How long would all that take? If each of
us sends this email out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all
300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!!
I'll bet you didn't think you and I had that much potential, did you! Acting
together we can make a difference. If this makes sense to you, please pass
this message on. PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE 69p a
LITRE RANGE

Action:

It's easy to make this happen. Jus**t forward this email, and buy your
petrol at Shell, Texaco, Tesco, Sainsburys, Jet etc. i.e. boycott BP and
Esso.

Phil hit it on the head.

Safeway's petrol station here. 82p a litre for diesel, and 81.7 for unleaded.
They're supplied by these "major" oil companies you speak of.

So yes.
What an absolute pile of toss.

That's the biggest pile of crap, ever.

Boycotting 2 companies won't lower taxes, plus Sainsbury's and Tesco's would probably get their petrol off of them in the first place. You don't see Tesco oil refineries do you?

It was started by an idiot who doesn't have a clue, even if BP/Esso did lower the prices, they would still go up again once everyone starts to buy off of them again.

Oh, and the actal price for petrol has hardly changed over the last few years, it's the tax that has forced the price up.

Sounds like a B.S. Artist, that guy.

Anyway, it wouldn't work, not enough people would boycott. Besides, it's a lot more complicated than that.

But just to rub it in to you people, anyone who lives in Northern Ireland (like me, but I don't have a car) can go down to the Republic and fill up for about 50 - 60p a litre. Oh yes.

people are stupid and generally dont a give a toss what price they pay.

In hitchin there are two petrol stations(BP & Shell) on the same road quite literally 1 minute's drive away from each other. Yet BP somehow have there prices 2p higher and there are always people filling up there when i drive past!

As as mentioned below, over 80% of it goes to the goverment.

The reason we have expensive petrol is because of the heavy tax on it. This tax pays for the NHS which costs a lot of money every year. More than £50 Billion.

Do you want cheaper petrol but have to pay for your healthcare? You decide.

Oh and the other major flaw with that email is that BP and ESSO are not the same oil company.

So.....

Even if BP and Esso did lower their price, people would go back to their garages, and then they would up the price again.

Usually buyers control the marketplace, yes, but not where fossil fuels are concerened, everyone needs them too much. If someone wants to do their part, help make the hydrogen powered cars. Thats the only way to hurt the oil companies.

As a mate has just said to me, this wont work because most of the price is due to TAX. The cheaper petrol stations at supermarkets hardly make a proffit, they just have low prices to convince you to shop at their store.
