There has been a lot of people suggesting that Pokemon will do in the 21st century what Mickey Mouse did in the 20th centuary, that is to be a character that is easily recognisable and appealing to everyone over generations.
If you look at it, whether you like them or not, Pokemon has become a huge and popular franchise, and whether you believe it or not, they have been around for the past 5 years, where the first Pokemon games were released in Japan. Since then, Nintento has marketed Pokemon all across the face of this planet, in lunch boxes, cartoons, clothes, movies, the list is endless. But if you look at things at the moment with the recent release of Pokemon Gold and Silver, now have been confirmed as the fastest selling computer games of all time, it shows that there is no slowdown whatsoever in kids wanting more from those battling creatures and all over the TV we keep hearing the slogan "Gotta Catch 'em All". I think it does mean gotta catch all the Pokemon, I think more appropriately in the case of Nintendo it should be "Gotta brainwash 'em All" in other words to keep buying our products so we can be a sucessful again. If you look at it, Pokemon is as popular as it ever has been, and with games being developed for Gamecube as well as the Gameboy Advance, it seems obvious that Pokemon will be here to stay for a long time yet. It probably wont last as long as Mickey Mouse did, who was first shown to the world in the 1930's, but with most kids nowadays owning a computer games console of some kind it must seem obvious that a computer games character will be the successor to Mickey in being characters that kids and adults alike will instantly recognise, and at the moment those characters have to be Pokemon, whether you like them or not.

i think now that Sega are working hard on nintendo, Sonic will have its new home on GC and GBA.
So true, yet as long as Nintendo remain with the Pokemon image, they will be labelled as the kiddy console, no matter what they do.
